Clay Monotype – The Infinite Print

June 9-13, 2025

Limited to 8 Only 4 spaces left!

Thanks to Pam Porter, we are so happy to bring this process back to our studio.

If you have ever made a clay monotype print you understand why we call it the Infinite Print. If you are new to the process, this is nothing like any printmaking process you have ever experienced.

The process uses one of humanities oldest materials, the clay beneath our feet, paired with modern and ancient pigments. By layering and applying colors, textures, and patterns onto a slab of leather-hard clay, artists develop intricate and interesting designs. When the design is finished, a special type of canvas is placed on top and hand-rolled, capturing the clay’s fine details and producing a unique and beautiful monoprint. What makes this process extraordinary is its versatility. The clay slab can be reworked—additively or subtractively—or completely refreshed, making an infinite number of unique prints possible. The resulting prints are archival and permanently bonded to the canvas, offering a timeless piece of art.

Pam will guide the workshop through the process from start to finish, with participants making clay monoprints by the afternoon of the first day. The process lends itself to developing imagery through layering techniques, color application, and textural experimentation, with a focus on playful and intuitive printmaking. Artists will have time for individual projects, exploring personal themes and ideas with guidance and feedback. On Friday, the last day, Pam will cover final print-finishing techniques, lead group sharing, and provide guidance on next steps for continuing a clay printing practice at home.

Join us to explore this expressive, fun and dynamic printmaking process—you’ll understand why it’s called The Infinite Print!

Pam has over 30 years of experience in Clay Printing. As an arts educator with a background as a Certified Professional Life Coach, Pam is deeply committed to helping others tap into their innate creativity through this unique medium. Clay Printing, developed by her late mentor Mitch Lyons, is especially suited to this purpose, as its tactile and expressive nature invites exploration and personal expression. Pam had the privilege of studying with Mitch at the Haystack School of Crafts in Maine, The College of Santa Fe, and the Tucson Artist’s Guild. Now working from her studio in Colorado, she continues to create and exhibit her work. Pam’s workshops provide not only technical instruction but also a relaxed and encouraging environment for creative growth, drawing on her life coaching skills to help participants overcome creative blocks and connect with their artistic potential.
