Personal Monotype

Professional printing session with Catherine Kernan

Personal Monotype with collaborative Master Printer Catherine Kernan

July 29- August 2, 2019

Limited to 4

This is a terrific opportunity for those with experience in Monotype or Monoprint to work with one of America’s premier monotype master printers and educators. Designed to create in collaboration meaningful works with emphasis on your artistic direction while receiving assistance and problem solving from Catherine in a small group environment. As a small group more ambitious projects can be undertaken with greater space and attention.

The focus will be exploring the synergy between your way of working, your artistic vision, and printmaking. Catherine will be your master collaborative printer to carry out your project at a level impossible in a workshop. Perfect for those in the previous week’s workshop who wish to stay on as well as for the artist needing a professional session. Catherine is one of the most experienced printmakers in the use of Akua, extensively exploiting its unique characteristics. By today’s standard, this opportunity is a great value to work so closely with such a renowned printer.

About Catherine:

Catherine Kernan has degrees from Cooper Union in New York City and the University of Wisconsin/Madison. She’s a founding partner in Mixit professional studios since 1982, first in Cambridge, then Boston, and now Somerville, Massachusetts.

Catherine is primarily a studio artist, making, showing, and selling her own work. She has, however, earned her credentials as a Master Printer by undertaking projects in collaboration with other artists, among them Ann Neely, Cheryl Warrick, Ron Rumford, and Jane Goldman. She has also produced commissioned editions for the Print Club of Cleveland, the Print Club of Rochester, and the Flint Institute of Art.

In workshops, Catherine’s teaching style is one of collaboration, meeting challenges, and exploration. She has held teaching appointments at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, among other institutions. From 2010 until 2017 Catherine was Director of Maud Morgan Arts, an art center in Cambridge, MA offering art classes, workshops, and community programs.

Ms. Kernan’s work is regularly exhibited in private galleries across the country, national & international juried exhibitions, and invitational shows. Many private and corporate collections own her work, as well as public collections, including Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, Boston Public Library, Grunewald Collection, New York Public Library, Library of Congress, Detroit Institute of Art, Davison Art Center at Wesleyan University, and the Harvard Art Museums. She has been awarded residencies at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice (2017), the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Co. Mayo, Ireland (1992 thru 2016), the MacDowell Colony (1986) and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (1989).
